So this is a list of web applications and projects that I really want to support. Some I rely on everyday, some I’m integrating into my regular processes and some just seem like a really good idea. Simple ideas to take the complication out of your life.
1. Spotify Premium
Starting with an easy one here. It’s taken a while but the music industry seems to have finally committed itself to it’s own future. The big players are now finally starting to come to the realisation that the model they so dearly loved was out dated. The future and the present life for the music industry is now deeply set in streaming music and subscription fees. This model works for so many reasons but lets not get into that. Spotify has improved my life, it’s as simple as that. I pay my £10 a month and for that I get access to a huge library of music 24/7.
Almost any song I could wan’t to listen to is on there, and if it’s not, you can do it the old fashioned way and download it. Spotify will integrate it into your library. Combine this with the 3,333 Spotify tracks that you can listen to offline on each of your devices (pc or phone) and the frankly awesome Facebook sync feature, which lets you see what your friends are listening too, check out and subscribe to their playlists and send them music and suggestions (click here if you have spotify). This really is the full experience the only thing else you’ll need is a Sonos…
Remember the days when you payed £10 for CD at HMV?
2. Evernote
A wonderful little application which has the potential to revolutionise your life, if you just let it. Basically the simple premise of Evernote is that you can take anything, be it a photo, document, web page capture, purchase order confirmation, link, a chair in ikea, a piece of architecture, a piece of web design, a kitchen cupboard handle or anything you can think of, capture it, assign it keywords and it will be in your data base, which you can browse from your Evernote app or anywhere online via your phone or any computer using their website.
It’s an incredibly simple idea that simply has an infinite number of potential uses. Go completely paperless, keep a record of all bank statements in one place. Store any important documents, Drivers license, bills, pay cheques in one place where you will have instant access. Are you cooking something for people today? highlight the recipe in your browser right click it to Evernote. Shut down your computor and go to the shops to get the ingredients, the recipe is on your phone too. later when your cooking it’s on your phone/computer again. Eating at the table, someone says ‘love this Pie! how did you make it?’. Get your phone out…. Bam!
Basically your life will continue to function perfectly fine with out Evernote, but if you like the idea of never forgetting anything again, always having access to any bit of important information in a simple organised database, then Evernote is for you.
3. Dropbox
File sharing. Got large files you want to share? maybe you want to give someone you’re whole music collection? Maybe you want to give them Dexter series 1-4? Maybe you’re making a presentation that you are constantly updating and you want multiple people to be able to view it at any point and make their own changes?
Assuming you both have a dropbox account, simply copy the file/folder into the Dropbox folder on your computer just like any other folder, right click ‘share with’ paste their email address and viola! it appears in the Dropbox folder on their computer.
couldn’t be more simple. anybody want Dexter series 1-4 by the way?
4. The Charity Engine (Show some support, like them on Facebook (there’s a button on the website))
Let’s get a bit more expansive shall we. My words would never be good enough, so i’ll let the man responsible do the talking….
4. Google Tasks
Or rather, that is Google Tasks on Andriod Via Gtasks app.
Everyday I make my to do list and tick them off as I go. My productivity has gone up ten fold. It syncs with google taks and google calendar. So that any future activities i have set on google calendar automatically appears on my agenda widget on my phone.
You can also make To buy lists, Work related to do lists, Ideas lists… anything you can think of. Never forget an idea again. Simple.
